Biostimulators for skin quality and contour

Biostimulators are a group of different, non-interchangeable injectable products, including calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA)-based products. They are intended to stimulate a tissue response and may affect skin quality or contour depending on the product and technique. The product, treatment area and injection plane are therefore chosen only after medical assessment.

Suitability and product choice

Suitability depends on anatomy, skin condition, the desired change and the product’s authorised use; not every product is appropriate for every area. The consultation covers previous fillers, allergies, bleeding tendency, medication, autoimmune or other relevant conditions, active inflammation and infection, pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Injection process

After disinfection and, if appropriate, local anaesthesia, the selected product is placed with a needle or cannula in an anatomically defined layer. Amount and distribution are individually planned. Depending on the product, an initial contouring effect may be visible, while the intended tissue response develops over weeks. A session plan is set only after assessment and product selection.

Aftercare and warning signs

Swelling, redness, tenderness and bruising are commonly temporary. Whether and how to massage is product-specific, so follow only your individual instructions. Unusually severe or increasing pain, pale or mottled skin, visual changes or neurological symptoms require immediate medical assessment.

Results and possible risks

The extent and duration of change vary; a specific firming or collagen effect cannot be guaranteed. In addition to common injection reactions, asymmetry, infection, nodules or granulomas may occur. Accidental injection into a blood vessel is rare but can cause tissue injury, visual impairment or stroke. CaHA cannot simply be dissolved with hyaluronidase like hyaluronic acid.
