Classic microneedling for skin texture and acne scars
Classic microneedling uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled microchannels in the skin. This may gradually improve the appearance of selected acne scars, fine lines and uneven texture. Unlike radiofrequency microneedling, it does not deliver heat energy into the skin, and no laser is used.
Suitability and skin assessment
Skin type, treatment goal and scar type are assessed first. Active acne, skin infection, herpes, eczema or other inflammation in the area may mean treatment should be postponed. The assessment also considers impaired healing or clotting, a tendency to keloids, immune suppression, diabetes, blood-thinning medication, isotretinoin, pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Classic microneedling process
After cleansing and, if appropriate, topical anaesthesia, a sterile single-use needle cartridge is used. Needle depth and speed are adjusted to the area, skin condition and goal. Combining treatment with PRP, polynucleotides or other products is not an automatic part of classic microneedling and requires a separate medical and product-specific assessment.
Recovery and aftercare
Temporary redness, warmth, tightness, mild swelling, pinpoint bleeding or peeling can occur. Until the skin barrier has settled, use only recommended skincare and avoid irritating active ingredients. Apply consistent sun protection and do not pick at crusting or flakes. Contact the clinic if symptoms worsen or signs of infection appear.
Results and possible risks
Changes develop gradually and more than one session may be appropriate. Complete scar removal or a permanent result cannot be guaranteed. Possible risks include prolonged redness, infection, reactivation of cold sores, lighter or darker pigment changes and, rarely, scarring. Its risk profile differs from radiofrequency microneedling.
